Sir,
It has been brought to the notice of the Board that the Export-Oriented Units engaged in development of software are not being allowed to avail of the facility of taking out Laptop Computers and Video Projection System under Board's
Circular No. 17/98-Customs, dated 16.3.98. Further, for the EPZ/STP/EHTP units also, the facility is limited to employee engineers having engineering qualification and not being allowed to other employees having MBA or equivalent higher degrees.
2. The matter has been considered. It has been decided that the facility of taking out Laptop Computer and Video Projection System shall also be available to 100% Export Oriented Units engaged in the development of software in addition to EPZ/STP/ETHP units, provided that the procedure as envisaged in
Circular No. 17/98-Customs, dated 16.3.98, is followed. Further, any employee duly authorised by the EOU/EPZ/STP/EHTP unit engaged in the development of software shall be eligible for the above facility irrespective of his/her qualification. However, the procedure as envisaged in Board's Circular No. 17/98-Customs, dated 16.3.98, would have to be followed.
3. The Board's Circular No. 17/98-Customs, dated 16.3.98, stands modified to the above extent.
4. Wide publicity may be given by issue of a Public Notice in this regard.
5. Kindly acknowledge receipt of this Circular. Difficulties, if any, faced in the implementation of the above changes, may be brought to the notice of the Board at an early date.
