Circular No.19/1996-Cus.date 3/4/96I am directed to say that the question of importability of maintenance free batteries was considered by the Specified Licensing Committee (SLC) at its meeting held on 30.5.95. The Committee had decided that maintenance free consumer goods are covered under the Negative List of Imports and therefore, cannot be allowed to be imported without a licence. Instructions may please be issued to all concerned under your jurisdiction to ensure that free rechargeable storage batteries may not be allowed to be imported without alicence.
