Subject: Application of PPFA Act 1954 on the clearance of consignments of food articles - instruction - regarding

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi have brought to the notice of Board that some imported consignment of food articles have been cleared by Customs without getting the samples analysed in terms of PFA, Act, 1954. As clearance of imported food articles without analysis may involve the risk of entry of adulterated/contaminated food articles into the country, they have requested Central Board of Excise & Customs to ensure that food articles are not cleared for home consumption without testing as required under the said Act.

2. You are, therefore, requested not to allow clearance of any food consignments without taking NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from Port Health Offices. If there is any delay in clearing the consignments, you should inform Board immediately.

3. The above instructions may be brought to the notice of all officers by issuing suitable standing instructions.
