20% Duty on telecom specified goods imports upto march "99
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub - section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby makes the following further amendment in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 11/97 - Customs dated the 1st March, 1997 namely :-

In the said notification, -

(a) in the table, after S. No. 149 and the entries relating thereto, the following shall be inserted, namely :-

"149A	85	Goods specified in List 9 A required for basic telephone service	20%	Nil	33A
149B	84,85 or 90	Goods specific in List 9B required for cellular mobile telephone service	20%	Nil	33B

149D	84,	Goods specified in List 9D required for close user"s group 64 KBPS domestic data network via INSAT satellite system in extended C band	20%	Nil	33D"

(b) in the Annexure -

(i) after List 9, the following Lists shall be added, namely :-

"List 9A (See S. No. 149A of the Table)
1. Radio communication equipment including VHF, UHF and microwave communication equipment of following description namely :-
(a) wireless in local loop system
(excluding terminal equipment)

2. Apparatus, for carrier current line systems or digital line systems of the following description, namely :-

(a) HDSL system
(b) DLC system
(c) SDH system
List 9B (See S. No. 149B of the Table)
1. Telephonic or telegraphic apparatus of the following microwave communication equipment equipment with following description -
(a) switching apparatus for cellular mobile telephone service

(b) base station controllers

2. Radio communication equipment including VHF, VHf and description:
(a) base transceivers stations (BTS)

3. Net work management station

4. Cellular repeaters

5. BTS ancillary equipment

6. Computers for billing and customers service

7. Voice mail service hardware

8. Short message service hardware

9. Automatic call distribution system

10. Transcoders

11. BSS test equipment

List 9C (See S. No. 149C of the Table)
1. Paging control terminal

2. Transmitter controller

3. Paging transmitter

4. Link transmitter / link repeater, monitor receiver

5. Link receiver

6. N+1 Arbitrators for the above, hot standby panel

7. Combiners

8. Automatic monitoring system

9. Network Management and control system

10.Integrated ACD / OAP system

11.Isolators

12.Cavity filters

13.Multicouplers

14.Directional power sensors

15.Communication analysers

16.Radio communication test setup, spectrum analyser, field strength meter

17.POCSAG or FLEX encoders

18.Global positioning system

19.Simul cast controller

20.Automatic call distribution equipment / system

List 9D (See S. No. 149D of the Table)
1. Satellite communication equipment

2. Network management system."

(other than customer premises equipment)

(ii) after Condition, 33, the following Conditions shall be added, namely :-

"33A. If imported by a person licensed by the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India for the purpose of providing basic telephone service.

"33B. If imported by a person licensed by the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India for the purpose of providing cellular mobile telephone service.

"33C. If imported by a person licensed by the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India for the purpose of providing radio paging Service.

"33D. If imported by a person licensed by the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India for the purpose of providing value added services via VSAT system."

2. This notification shall be valid upto and inclusive of the 31st day of March, 1999.
