CUSTOMS NOTIFICATION NO.69/1998 Dated 15-9-1998
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act.
1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public
interest. so to do, hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government
of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue)
No. 49/97Customs, dated the 23rd
May, 1997, namely:-
In the said notification, after the words, figures and brackets "the Customs Tariff Act,
1975, (51 of 1975) (hereinafter, referred to as the Customs Tariff Act)", the following words
and figures shall be inserted, namely :-
"Platinum and silver falling under Chapter 71 of the Customs Tariff Act".

Note : The principal notification was published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) vide
notification No. 49/97- Customs dated the 23rd May, 1997 (GSR 2 72(E), dated the 23rd
May, 1997 for allowing duty free import of gold and gold findings, mountings or soldiers for the manufacture of jewellery for export. The said notification is being amended to allow duty free import of platinum and silver also for the manufacture of plain and
studded jewellery for exports as is permissible under the Expert and Import Policy,
1997-2002.
