PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 55/2000 Date:24.05.2000

Pending Bills of Entry-reg.

An analysis of pending Bills of Entry at the end of April reveals that a large number are pending assessment over 15 days for want of actions on the part of CHA/Importers. This Custom House has already issued Standing Order providing for assessment of bills of Entry within 7 days failing which the Importers have to be offered provisional assessment or bonding u/s 49 of the Customs Act 1962. Such indifference on the part of Importer’s/CHA’s is not desirable.

To overcome such situation, the CHA/Importers are advised to invariably answer to queries and put up result of the 1st check within 5 days of order, if any, given by the competent authorities. Compliance this would be in their interest.

All the CHA’s/Importer’s and all the members of trade are requested to note the content and co-operate with the department.
