PUBLIC NOTICE NO.57/2001

Sub. : Exports -Computerised processing of Shipping Bills --introduction of Permanent Account Number (PAN) as the Common Business Identifier in Customs Operations -Amendment thereof.


Attention of Exporters, CHAs and all other concerned is invited towards Public Notice No. 54/2001 dated 27.04.2001 wherein, as a temporary measure, it was decided to allow processing of all such Shipping Bills where BIN numbers IV8re duly issued by the DGFT but the same were not available in the Customs Computer at the EDI Centre of this Custom House due to some technical snag in he transmission of the same. In such cases, manual processing of the Shipping Bills were allowed on the production of the adequate documentary evidence by he Exporters in support of their claim that BIN Numbers were duly issued by the DGFT.

2.Since the aforesaid technical snag in transmission of relevant data from DGFT"s Computer to Customs has reportedly been resolved there is no necessity to resort to Manual processing of such Shipping Bills on above account. Manual processing of the EDI Shipping Bills will be considered only in those cases where the L.C. date of the export order is nearing expiry or where cut off date for the vessel is approaching within a day or two. In such cases, manual processing of the Shipping Bills will be permitted under the specific order of the Additional/joint Commissioner (EP) in each case.

3.The Public Notice No. 54/2001 dated 27.4.2001 shall stand withdrawn.
