Presentation of Union Budget for the year 2000-2001-reg.


All importers, exporters and CHA are hereby informed that the union Budget for the year 2000-2001 is likely be presented at 12.00 hours on 29.2.2000. In terms of Section 4 of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act.1931. the previsions of the Finance Bill will take effect from the midnight of 29.2.2000/1.3.2000. The rate of duty and tariff valuation of imported goods is governed by section is of the customs Act which stipulates that the same shall be in force on te rate on which the Bill of Entry shall be made on 29th Februarv.2000 in this Custom Houses. Similarly no clearances shall be allowed from any bounded warehouse under section 6B of the Custioms Act for ex-bonding the warehoused goods.

Emergency arrangements for clearance of goods in pipeline etc. could be considered as was being followed earlier for clearance between 5.00 p.m. and midnight on the Budget dav. Such requests must be made in writing to the Department and submitted by 12.00 noon on 28.2.2000.
