Onion Export of One Lakh MT Allowed

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development andRegulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992) read with paragraph 1.3 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002 (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.99), the Central Government hereby makesfollowing amendments in the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002: (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.99).

The following amendment shall be made in the entry at ITC(HS) Code No.0703 in ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Imports items, 1997-2002, (Incorporating amendments made upto 31st August, 1998) at Schedule-2, Table B:

i) A total quantity of 100,000 MT of all varieties of onion shall be allowed for exports for the next two months from the date of notification till 15.02.2000. Out of the total quantity of 100000 MT, the quantities shall be allocated to the following agencies as follows: (In the above para the period of shipments of export of all varieties of onion has been extended till 15th February, 2000 as per the Policy Circular No. 51 (RE-99)/99-2000 Dt.8th February, 2000) (a) NAFED is allowed to export 40000 MTs directly or through its associate shippers. (b) Karnataka State Agriculture Produce Processing and Export Corporation Ltd, (KAPPEC) Bangalore and Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd, (KSCMF), Bangalore are allowed to export 10000 MTs each of all varieties of onions either directly or through registered exporters ensuring that all applicants are receiving a fair and equal treatment. (c) The Maharastra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB) and Gujarat Agro industries corporation (GAIC) are allowed to export 20000 MTs of all varieties of onion each either directly or through registered exporters ensuring that all applicants are receiving a fair and equal treatment. (ii) All onions exported will be subject to a Minimum Export Price (MEP) fixed by NAFED. (iii) The agencies named above shall ensure that the quantities released now are to be exported within the time prescribed i.e 31.1.2000. (iv) The careful selection of exporters is made to eliminate the trading in permits to export onions. (v) The agencies shall ensure that quality of onions is maintained. (vi) A weekly report of permits issued shall be provided to NAFED which shall act as a nodal agency to keep the Government of India informed of the outflows of onions.
